Dreaming and reality

When we dream, we imagine a reality in our mind that we think at the time is "real" and then we wake up, but what we call reality is also a projection in the mind. Our senses collect data, and we interpret this data like that. We experience it like that.
We understand that the imagination of something could be the same thing as perceiving something in reality; this idea was put forward by the discord user "metricgrace". And I here make the connection of dreaming to this idea with a few more additions.
The idea that what we see isn't really what's there is not new, it is an idea in physics, since we know that all matter and energy can be described as waves, we know that colour as we know it doesn't exist in nature. Therefore colour is a matter of imagination.
So why then do we think the reality we see is actual reality itself? the only reason to do this is because, unlike dreams this reality is consistent. We experience the same set of laws and the same environment every single day. So this consistency is the only thing we have to separate reality from dreams.
Why does this consistency exist? Why does it lack in dreams? one theory is that it could be that reality and consciousness are separate things, but things that border each other. If reality contains consciousness, then we should not be able to dream unless there is a mechanism in the brain that allows us to experience qualia. But I feel dreaming could eliminate the fact that reality could be subjective in nature.
If reality is a construct of the mind (or consciousness is contained within reality), why would we only experience different realities when we sleep? why not while we're awake? perhaps there is a reason to it, but this logic is 2 steps removed, just like the reality containing the consciousness argument.
So to sum it up :
If reality and consciousness are separate. That is why we can experience different realities only when we sleep, and when we wake up we experience this reality and not something else since dreams are created in the consciousness and not the reality.
If reality is constructed by the mind, then there is an unknown reason why we only experience different realities while we sleep, since we could experience anything when we wish and bend this reality as we see fit. So the reason is unknown why this happens.
If consciousness is a construct of reality, then there is yet again an unknown reason why we experience different realities while we sleep perhaps this could be explained by the missing link in the chain of physicalism where qualia is explained.
If consciousness and reality are one and the same, then it would still have to be broken down to 2 parts, being consciousness and reality, and explained like that, dreams, as far as my logic goes right now, doesn't explain how they can be one of the same thing. Since there is no reason to experience 1 reality and experience many when sleeping. No reason I can see as of yet anyway.
